State Board Grants Waiver Request

April 2nd, 2014 by WCBC Radio

The Maryland State Department of Education has approved the Allegany County Public School System’s request of five days from the 180-day school year requirement due to the excessive number of school closings due to inclement weather. As a result of MSDE’s approval, the last day of school for ACPS students will be Wednesday, June 11, 2014 and will also be a 3-hour early dismissal.

Allegany County Public Schools were closed a total of sixteen days this school year. The local school board voted to modify the current school calendar to reclaim Presidents’ Day as an instructional day for students, and also plans to reclaim the Thursday before Easter, April 17th, and the Monday after Easter, April 21st, as additional instructional days for students.

As a reminder, the school system also plans to extend the end of the third marking period to Friday, April 4, 2014, with a three-hour early dismissal on Monday, April 7, 2014. Report card distribution has been delayed until Monday, April 21, 2014.
