State Continues Review of Footer Dye Works Project

As the Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority begins a search for two million additional dollars for the Footer Dye Works project- the state is continuing a lengthy review of the overall operation.  Last winter the state appointed an independent working group with representatives from state planning, tourism, general services and the Maryland Heritage Area to look into the Authority’s organization, mission and funding. Authority Chair Rick Thayer said the goal of the state review is to make recommendations to address the shortfall in revenue being experienced, as well as to make general recommendations to improve operations. Already accomplished has been an examination of the authority’s various leases, operating expenses and capital needs. In addition, meetings have taken place with local officials as well as with the authority:
