State Lawmaker Wants PSC To Consider Plan To Bury Electric Lines

Six days after a major storm tore through the region- more than 600 Allegany County residents remained without power- more than 150 of those in Cumberland. To avoid such situations in the future, one state lawmaker in Maryland wants the Public Service Commission to consider his plan to bury electric lines. Power company consider the idea cost-prohibitive.  State Senator Jim Rosapepe  told WBAL News that the PSC needs to study what he is calling a "major job creating initiative" that would put electric service lines underground.  Rosapepe said it would be better if the lines were underground instead of under trees that get blown down in storms and force customers to wait sometimes days for restoration. As far as the cost, he believes those issues would balance out…
