State Lawmakers To Meet In Special Session Next Week

State lawmakers are coming back to Annapolis next week for a special session- and while its scheduled to deal with redrawing Maryland’s congressional districts- any number of items could be put on the table for discussion. Initially however, the task at hand is Governor Martin O'Malley proposed map nearly identical to the one approved last week by the commission he named- and one that dramatically impacts the sixth district in western Maryland. That map has been criticized by African American lawmakers who say it reduces their influence, as well as Republicans, who say the proposed map adds part of Montgomery County to the Western Maryland district represented by Republican Congressman Roscoe Bartlett.
