State Police cracking down on “distracted driving”

March 28th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Beginning on Monday, April 1, 2019, motorists in Allegany County can expect to see message boards lit up with the message, “Phones Down – Buckle Up, Enforcement Underway”.  For the entire month of April, the Maryland State Police – Cumberland Barrack, Allegany County Sheriff’s Department, Cumberland City Police, Frostburg City Police and Frostburg State University Police will be working together to stop motorists from using their cell phones while driving.  In conjunction with putting the phones down, seat belt enforcement will be a priority this year – a focus enhanced by the Maryland Highway Safety Office.  On average, approximately 27,000 people are injured or killed annually in the U.S. due to crashes involving a distracted driver.  Additionally, statistics reveal that wearing a seat belt properly can reduce the risk of a fatal collision by 45% and the risk of moderate to critical injury by 50%. So, avoid the $83 fine and inconvenience of being stopped by a law enforcement officer, put your phones down and buckle up.  Enforcement will be underway.

The MD drivers manual says to have two hands on the wheel. That is the law. So again people feel that the law isn’t talking about ME. It is unnerving to see someone smoking, on the phone and driving at the same time.500.00 for first offense, 1000 for 2nd and loss of license after that. If you add alcohol and Marijuana the person is held in jail. Wake up people and safe lives as your own.

I forgot to add eating, smoking, phone and driving and slurping. In Belgium no one is allowed to eat in the car. You must pull over to eat. That wd never happen here.
