January 5th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

Maryland State Police investigators are continuing their investigation into the death of a man found dead in a Garrett County wooded area yesterday and are hoping an autopsy today will assist them in confirming the manner of his death.

The victim has been identified as Alexander A. Stevens, 24, of Frostburg, Md.  Stevens was pronounced dead where his body was found in the 2600-block of Pine Swamp Road, Barton, Md.

Stevens' body had sustained trauma.  The cause and manner of death have not been identified at this time.  The body has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.  All possibilities are being considered and nothing has been ruled out at this time.

Maryland Natural Resources Police requested assistance from Maryland State Police in a search they were conducting yesterday morning for a man reported missing by a friend.  Shortly after 9:30 a.m. yesterday, the crew of Maryland State Police helicopter Trooper 5, located the man’s body while conducting an aerial search of the region around the Savage River State Forest.

Investigators from the Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division and the State Police Homicide Unit responded to the scene and are conducting the investigation.  Assistance is being provided by State Police crime scene technicians, and investigators from C3I and the Natural Resources Police.

The investigation is continuing.
