State Revenue Estimates Down Due In Part To Weak Holiday Shopping Season

Citing weak sales during the holiday shopping season and through January, and sales tax revenues that fell below projections, Maryland's Board of Revenue Estimates has written down the state's revenue estimates by $51.4-million. The three member board chaired by Comptroller Peter Franchot, and including Treasurer Nancy Kopp and Budget Secretary David Brinkley unanimously approved the report in a meeting on Wednesday. Franchot says sales tax revenues are only expected to grow by 2.3-percent in the next year, and economic activity "remains flat…
