Maryland State Police continue to investigate a crash that occurred early Saturday morning in Prince George’s County after a Washington, D.C. man fled the scene of a traffic stop.
The driver involved in the crash is identified as Vincent Robinson, 32, of the 4500 block of Eads in Washington, D.C. Charges in this case are pending. Police believe alcohol is a factor. Robinson is being treated at Prince George's Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.
Shortly before 3:00 a.m. this morning, a Maryland State Trooper from the College Park Barrack was working traffic enforcement in the area of eastbound Route 50 near Route 202 in Largo. He initiated a traffic stop on a red Infiniti, driven by Robinson, which passed the trooper at a high rate of speed.
As the trooper approached Robinson’s vehicle on the traffic stop, Robinson sped off, traveling southbound on Route 202 and reaching speeds near 100 miles per hour. Robinson then turned around near Interstate 495 and continued to travel at a high rate of speed northbound on Route 202 which merged into Route 450. At the intersection of Maryland Route 450 and 54th Street, a vehicle pulled out in front of Robinson.
At approximately 3:05 a.m., Robinson swerved to avoid the oncoming traffic, lost control of his vehicle, hit a tree and then a pole before coming to rest in the westbound lanes of Route 450. Robinson was transported to Prince George’s County Hospital where he is being treated for his injuries sustained in the crash.
Members of the Maryland State Police CRASH Team responded to the scene and are investigating the crash. Officers from the Prince George’s County Police Department assisted with the incident.
The case is under review by the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney. Charges are pending as the investigation continues.
