Relatively cheap gas prices are boosting driving demand, and 2016 remains poised to be a record year for both gasoline consumption and annual miles traveled. The national average price at the pump moved higher by eight cents per gallon on the week and 16 cents more on the month to $2.20. However, the nationwide price is 39 cents per gallon less compared to this same date last year. In Cumberland prices stand at $2.23, up just a penny from last week, but up twenty three cents from last month. Maryland’s average price at the pump is a penny higher than the national average at $2.21 per gallon. The state average has climbed nine cents a gallon compared to last week’s price and is 14 cents more than last month; however, the state average is 35 cents per gallon cheaper than last year on this date.
