Stolen police vehicle sought

5:02 PM – WVSP reports the suspect is now in custody.

Authorities continued to search for a marked West Virginia State Police vehicle that was reportedly stolen Tuesday in the U.S. Route 522 area of Morgan County by a handcuffed person, according to state police. A police spokesman said a 2014 Ford Expedition Interceptor was reported stolen at about 8:30 a.m. The Charleston Gazette reported the vehicle was stolen by a handcuffed person during a traffic stop and arrest in Morgan County. The newspaper attributed the information to a Kanawha County Metro 911 dispatcher. The Kanawha County dispatching center reportedly received a lookout notice on the stolen police vehicle that displayed license plate number 513. The vehicle with blue and gold state police markings contained a Smith & Wesson AR-15 and a 12-gauge shotgun. The Morgan Messenger newspaper reported that the suspect and the vehicle were being sought by numerous law enforcement agencies. The search reportedly included the assistance of a Maryland State Police medevac helicopter. State police at Berkeley Springs declined to provide any information on the stolen vehicle early Tuesday afternoon except to say the police vehicle had not been located.
