Superintendent of Schools, Dr. David Cox, recently announced the appointments of two administrative staff for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year to fill vacancies left as the result of retirements. At the secondary level, Joseph Brewer, former Spanish teacher at Fort Hill Hill School, will assume the role of Academic Dean at Fort Hill next year. Kathy Eirich, former special education specialist, will serve as Assistant Supervisor in Special Education. Brewer received a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and Spanish a Master of Education degree in administration and supervision, both from Frostburg State University. He also completed a Maryland approved licensure program in Spanish education at FSU.
He began his career in ACPS in 1999 as a Spanish and French teacher at both the Career Center and Flintstone School. In 2000 he moved to Westmar Middle School as a special education teacher until his eventual transfer to Fort Hill in 2002. Brewer has taught at Fort Hill fifteen of the eighteen years of his career in Allegany County.
“I have always believed that Fort Hill is a special school with a community that values both academics and athletics,” said Brewer. “It provides a great education to a wide range of students and has a faculty that shows exceptional care for all students. I am thankful that I can begin my administrative career at a school that I love.”
Eirich holds a Bachelor of Science degree in special education from Penn State University and a Master of Education degree in administration and supervision from Frostburg State University. Her tenure in Allegany County began in 1995 at Braddock Middle School were she served as a special education teacher. In 1999, Kathy assumed the role of Special Education Facilitator and then in 2008 as a Special Education Specialist.
When asked how she felt about her new role, Eirich said, “I am truly excited to have the opportunity to serve ACPS and our students in this new capacity.”
