Superintendent Discusses Student Assault Issue

This week, two students at Fort Hill High School were suspended after the results of an investigation led to the discovery of the ongoing assault of another student.  The investigation began earlier this week after a teacher at the school noticed suspicious marks on the victim.  With the help of school and system administrators as well as School Resource Officers and the Cumberland City Police Department, the two aggressors have been suspended from school and are being disciplined in accordance with the Board of Education’s policy on student discipline.  The students are also being charged on multiple counts by the Cumberland City Police Department.   The investigation into this incident is still ongoing.   The victim advised police that he was punched and kicked multiple times by two juvenile male students during the past six months.  The victim stated that the assaults were taking place during school hours near the gymnasium. The fact that the assaults were taking place routinely for almost the entire school year and no staff or faculty was apparently aware is a cause of concern for some parents.
