Suspect Arrested in Rape Case

January 20th, 2012 by WCBC Radio

On Thursday, 01/19/2012, Investigators with the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) arrested 19 year old Bryan Wayne Whitmore, of Hagerstown, after he had been indicted by the Allegany County Grand Jury, and charged with 2nd Degree Rape and 2nd Degree Assault. The charges stem from an allegation of sexual assault made by an 18 year old female victim.

On 09/11/2011 the Frostburg Police responded to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center after being notified by hospital staff, as required by law, that the victim was there being treated for a reported sexual assault. Investigators with the C3I Unit also responded to assist in the investigation.

The victim was able to provide Investigators with information concerning the incident, which had occurred at a private residence the night before. An investigation into the allegation was initiated. Numerous individuals were interviewed, and a possible suspect was developed as a result. Forensic evidence was gathered and forwarded to the Maryland State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

As a result of that analysis, Whitmore was identified as the suspect. The Allegany County State’s Attorney’s Office and law enforcement sought an indictment before the Grand Jury, and one was issued. Whitmore surrendered to authorities after being advised and was charged at that time.

Whitmore was taken before Circuit Court Judge for an initial appearance. Bond was set at $10,000.00, which Whitmore has posted. He is free pending his next court appearance.
