Synthetic Drug Law to be Voted on Tonight

A hearing on a proposed county law to ban certain synthetic drugs was held two weeks ago, and the Allegany County Commissioners are expected to vote at tonight’s meeting in Frostburg to implement it. There were some heated exchanges at the August 39th public hearing- primarily between between the owner of a local shop that sells some of the targeted items, which could become illegal if the proposal is passed, and county officials.  Charles Casey, the owner of Puff & Stuff in Cumberland and LaVale, spoke against the proposed law, especially as an emergency measure which would take effect upon passage. Although he emphasized on several occaisions that the products he sells are legal- Commissioner Mike McKay suggested that Casey is well aware of how those legal products are being used as a drug substitute by many teens in the county…
