Szeliga, Van Hollen agree to two broadcast debates

September 14th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

The two major party candidates running for Maryland's open Senate seat have agreed to at least two broadcast debates.

Democratic nominee Rep. Chris Van Hollen and Republican nominee Del. Kathy Szeliga will debate on WAMU-FM on Oct. 7 and on WJZ-TV on Oct. 26.

At least one additional broadcast debate is still being negotiated. Szeliga's campaign included two television debates it has agreed to on its list that were not included on Van Hollen's announcement: One hosted by WBAL-TV and Maryland Public Television scheduled for Sept. 27 and one by WJLA-TV and WBFF-TV, with the date to be determined.

The only confirmed television debate so far will be sponsored by WJZ-TV, The Baltimore Sun, the University of Baltimore and the Baltimore City League of Women Voters. It will broadcast on WJZ on 10/26 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
