Task Force On Fighting Heroin Addiction Releases Final Recommendations

A Maryland task force on fighting heroin addiction released its final recommendations on Tuesday.  The task force was created by Gov. Larry Hogan in February. It is comprised of 11 members with expertise in substance abuse, treatment and law enforcement. The panel has been working to improve public awareness, access to treatment and quality of care. It also has been looking at alternatives to incarceration for nonviolent drug abusers and law enforcement coordination.  Lt Governor Boyd Rutherford headed up the task force which held a series of regional town hall meetings- including one for western Maryland. The Lt Governor said those sessions made it abundantly clear that the heroin crisis is being felt in every section of the state- and a number of steps, beginning with education, have to be taken…
