Teacher Salary Increase Issue for Commissioners

March 29th, 2013 by WCBC Radio

A potential salary hike for Allegany County teachers during a struggling economy is not sitting well with the Board of Education’s local funding source- the county commissioners. During Thursday afternoon’s budget presentation, the board made a request reflecting a 3.6 percent increase over last year for general operation- allowing for the possibility of a pay raise for the four different bargaining units under the board. Commissioner Mike Mckay, while pointing out that most county agencies and the county government itself, has forgone pay raises in recent years- this will mark a fifth consecutive year the board has budgeted for salary increases.
