Temporary Repairs To Washington Street Bridge Completed

Temporary repairs on the Washington Street Bridge have been completed, although ownership documents verifying CSX’s responsibility for the bridge still haven’t been produced. The bridge had been temporarily closed after structural defects were discovered during an August inspection John DiFonzo, director of engineering for the city of Cumberland, said earlier this year that the city’s paper work with CSX regarding the bridge likely were destroyed by a fire at  City Hall in 1910. With no documentation on the city’s side, there had been some question as to whether or not CSX would accept responsibility and make the necessary repairs. City Administrator Jeff Rhodes said while CSX has not yet officially or formally acknowledged ownership and/or responsibility for the bridge- the company has completed the preliminary repairs…
