Tentative Agreement Made Between City and Fire Union

A contract dispute that has dragged on for over a year may have finally ended as a tentative agreement has been reached  between the local fire fighter’s union and the city of Cumberland.   Ken McKenzie, president of the International Association of Fire Fighters local 1715, tells WCBC News that the union met Monday night to discuss the proposal, and a vote is expected at a meeting next Monday.  Mayor Brian Grim. A tentative agreement was hammered out during a lengthy session last month when the union representatives and the city negotiating team met with a federal mediator. The parties had been negotiating regularly under the direction of a federal mediator for several months. “Neither side would elaborate on the details in the proposed agreement until the contract has been reviewed and ratified by both parties.  The main sticking point in the dispute had been staffing levels per eight hour shift. The union has wanted a staff of 13 employees per shift.  While not suggesting how the membership will vote, all indications are the proposal will be overwhelmingly accepted…
