The chairman of Maryland’s powerful Senate

July 15th, 2011 by WCBC Radio

The chairman of Maryland’s powerful Senate Budget and Taxation Committee says despite rumors to the contrary- he doubts the general assembly will approve any tax hikes during the upcoming special session in the fall. Lawmakers are set to meet in special session in mid October to re-draw congressional districts- however, like 2007 when the last special session was held, other issues such as tax hikes are sure to come to the table for discussion and perhaps action. State Senator Ed Kasemeyer, who chairs the Committee, says he does not think lawmakers will vote on expanding the sales tax in a special session this year, even though his committee is holding a meeting on the subject later this month
