“The Vagina Monologues” Returns to FSU

January 30th, 2015 by WCBC Radio

“The Vagina Monologues,” author and feminist Eve Ensler’s award-winning play, is returning to Frostburg State University for a two-night benefit performance as part of V-Day @ FSU. Performances will be on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 19 and 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center. Hailed by The New York Times as “funny” and “poignant” and by the Daily News as “intelligent” and “courageous,” “The Vagina Monologues,” which Ensler first performed in an Off-Broadway theater in 1996, dives into the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage and excitement of women’s experiences. It is an episodic play, delivered through monologues by women from all walks of life, based on interviews with hundreds of women. It has been performed throughout the world to great acclaim. The FSU student director is Hannah Blankenbeckler. Each year, in honor of V-Day, the global movement that was inspired by “The Vagina Monologues” to end violence against women and girls, FSU does V-Day @ FSU. At 6:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center each night before the performances, there will be an information festival that will feature campus and community groups that provide assistance to victims and survivors of abuse, the Clothesline Project and V-Day merchandise. Tickets for the play are $6 for students and $12 for the general public and may be reserved by calling 301-687-7462 weekdays from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 to 4 p.m. All proceeds from tickets and merchandise go to the Dove Center, the Family Crisis Resource Center and the V-Day Spotlight, which is One Billion Rising: Revolution.
