Thirteen County Projects To Receive Program Funding

A total of thirteen countywide development projects are set to receive funding in the 2017 fiscal year from a state-mandated program. David Dorsey, Allegany County’s planning coordinator, presented staff recommendations for Program Open Space dollars. The POS program is designed to give state and local governments the opportunity to purchase land for recreation and for development. A problem this year according to Dorsey is that Allegany County doesn’t have POS requests for acquisition- all of them are for development.  State law however requires the county to set aside a portion of the funding for acquisition- thus taking away from the overall state allocation, and cutting the amount of funding that can be made available for development projects…
