Three Companies Move Forward In Bid For 6th Casino License

The State has approved three companies to move forward in the bidding process for a sixth casino license in Maryland. The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission says Prince George's Racing Ventures LLC which is a subsidiary of Penn National, MGM National Harbor LLC and Maryland Casino LLC, a subsidiary of Greenwood Racing. Officials say they did extensive background investigations of each applicant which is required by state law. The state Video Lottery Facility Location Commission will then decide on which company is awarded the license for a Prince George's County location. Maryland Casino LLC purchased a 22-acre site in Fort Washington.  Although a referendum vote several years ago showed overwhelming support for legalizing slots- and revenues have been steady- Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot is still a staunch opponent of relying on gaming to improve the state’s economy…
