Thunderstorms Rip Area; Power Outages Rampant

June 30th, 2012 by WCBC Radio

More than 80,000 homes throughout the four-state area lost power during a wave of severe thunderstorms Friday night, according to Potomac Edison. The worst outages were in Allegany County with more than 23,000 outages and Berkeley County, WV with nearly 25,000. In Allegany County, some power customers were without power for over 3.5 hours. Power crews were dispatched soon after the storm hit, with many downed trees and branches across roadways. Clean-up crews were also dispatched throughout the night.

Currently, there are still 16,000 power customers without electricity in the area. Potomac Edison is currently working to restore power throughout the region with over 100 crews throughout the area as homeowners are waking up to debris and damage this morning.

Power went out last night about 9:30 and didn’t come back on until about 8PM this evening in LaVale. Power was on for about 2 hours and it is off again. Major trees down from wind with major damage.

As of Sunday July 1, at 8:30 am, still no power, has been out since the storm came through Friday evening. We are in a “grid” of about 38 in the Fayette and Greene Street areas that are without power. I was informed that it could take four days for us to get service back because it is a small amount of people in this “grid”. We have already lost everything in the fridge. Thank goodness the trash goes tomorrow.

UPDATE: around 11:45 pm Sunday night, our power was restored. Thank you to all the people that have been working on this terrible power outage. I hope everyone else in the area gets theirs on soon. Thank you all.
