Tour Bus Fire Shuts Down I 68 In Garrett County

Tuesday morning, at approximately 11:15 am, a 1998 Tour bus was traveling east bound on I-68 near the 13 Mile marker, Accident, MD, when the engine area of the bus caught fire. The operator pulled the bus to the shoulder behind a Maryland State Trooper who was investigating another vehicle crash. The Trooper attempted to extinguish the flames with a fire extinguisher, but the flames were too large. East bound and west bound lanes were closed for approximately 2 hours until the fire was extinguished by the fire department. The accident was investigated by Troopers from the MSP McHenry Barracks and determined to be a mechanical malfunction that caused the fire.
