Tourism Director Says It May Be Time To Consider Demolition Of Footer Dye Works Building

January 20th, 2014 by WCBC Radio

Allegany County Tourism Director Barb Buehl says it might be time to seriously consider the demolition option when it comes to the Footer Dye Works building at Canal Place. The aging structure has been at the center of a debate in the community with some viewing it as a valuable piece of the area’s history- while others see it as nothing more than an eyesore. Efforts to attract private developers have failed in the past, however a new rfp seeking proposals will be sent out in the near future by the Canal Place Authority. Buehl, who has overseen tourism in the county for the past ten years, said that she isn’t speaking for the county- but it is her personal opinion that all efforts have been exhausted with the building and it’s time to cut the losses and tear it down…
