At approximately 2:24AM Thursday, the Cumberland Fire Department was dispatched for a tractor trailer with brakes on fire traveling eastbound I-68 lane on the crosstown bridge between Johnson St.(Exit 43A) and Industrial Blvd (Exit 43B) ramps. First arriving units found a tractor trailer auto carrier well involved with fire. It was hauling 9 vehicles at the time of the incident. The fire consumed three of the vehicles and damages two others along with the tractor. I-68 was completely shut down for approximately 3.5 hours due to the incident. Cumberland Police and Fire Department on scene along with tanker 3 Bedford Road VFD. Representative from SHA, MDE, Hazmat, notified and on scene also. Ridgeley Co. 25 Alerted but redirected to stand-by at Central Station. Last units cleared the scene at 06:04AM. No injuries to report.
