Traffic Pattern Change at the Mason Recreation Complex

April 28th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

Leonard S. Fiore, Inc. has begun construction of the underground Combined Sewage Overflow (CSO) Storage Facility being located in the Mason Recreation Complex near the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).

The construction project is expected to be completed by Spring of 2019 and will be designed to reduce the frequency and magnitude of CSO events at the WWTP. The City of Cumberland is advising that traffic patterns will be altered throughout the Mason Recreation Facility in order to provide the space necessary for this construction work.

Parking availability will also be decreased and certain facilities will be inaccessible during this construction time, including the tennis courts, basketball courts, and baseball field.

The boat ramp will remain open for public use.

The City asks the public’s patience and cooperation in their use of the Mason Recreation Facility during this construction time. This important project will allow the City to capture sewage overflows and treat them at the Enhanced Nutrient Removal (ENR) Wastewater Treatment Plant before being released into the Potomac River, a tributary to the Chesapeake Bay.
