Traffic Stop Results in Drug and Weapon Arrest

On Tuesday, at approximately 12:35PM, Troopers stopped a Chevrolet Impala on westbound Interstate 68 at Rocky Gap in Cumberland, Allegany County, MD., for traveling 75mph in a posted 65mph zone.  During contact with the operator, an odor of suspected burnt marijuana was detected, emitting from inside the vehicle.  A probable cause search of the vehicle revealed a 9mm handgun and over 25 grams of suspected marijuana.  The operator, Jack Gordon Jr., 21, of Wilmington, DE., was charged with possession of CDS, handgun in vehicle, and illegal possession of a regulated firearm.  He was held in the Allegany County Detention Center on $25,000.00 bond.  The passenger, Christopher Athey, 22, also of Wilmington, DE., was also arrested and charged with possession of CDS, and held on $10,000.00 in the Allegany County Detention Center.
