Update: Train Derailed on Baltimore Street

August 21st, 2012 by WCBC Radio

The investigation continues into a late night train derailment in downtown Cumberland on Monday. Cumberland City Police responded to the railroad crossing at Baltimore St. for a report of a train derailment at approx. 9:27 PM.  Upon officers arrival they observed three trains derailed along with the detachment of the train.  There was heavy damage done to the tracks just east of the crossing and the crossing itself has minor damage.  There were no injuries reported as a result of the derailment and all cars remained upright with no spills of any type from them.  At the time of the incident all crossings from Franklin St. to Baltimore St. were blocked until approx. midnight.  At this time CSX was able to separate the train and open up all the crossings except Baltimore St.  At this time the police department is unsure how long the Baltimore St. crossing will be closed.  CSX is currently expecting the arrival of a crane to assist with the clean up and removal of the rail cars at approx. 2:30 AM on Tuesday.  The City Street Department assisted the Police Department with the placing of barricades on both side of the Baltimore St. crossing closing the intersection.  Any questions concerning the specifics of the train derailment should be made to CSX Corporation.
