Two Arrested After Displaying Handgun in Store

On Sunday, March 29th, 2020 the Cumberland Police Department responded to the Dollar General on Greene Street for the report of two males inside the store that displayed a handgun.  When officer arrived, contact was made with a store employee who stated two males entered the store and one of the males displayed a handgun from his waistband and demanded money.  The male then told the employee that it was a “joke” and paid for a beverage and both males left the store on foot.  A description of the males was given to additional responding officer.  An off duty officer observed two male matching the given descriptions in the area of Mt. Royal Avenue.  Police responded to the area and located the two males who were identified as Tony Edward Brown and Drake Giovonni Fletcher.  Positive identification was made by the Dollar General employee and both Brown and Fletcher were arrested.  Brown was charged with armed robbery, carrying a handgun on person, possession a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm under the age of 21, and 1st degree assault.  Fletcher was charged with attempted armed robbery and disorderly conduct.  Both were taken before the District Court Commissioner; Brown was held without bond and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center.  Fletcher was released on an unsecured bond of $7,500 pending trial.
