Two Arrested on CDS Possession

On Tuesday, September 25th, 2018 a Cumberland Police Officer stopped a vehicle with New Jersey plates on W. Oldtown Road for an equipment violation.  The officer contacted the occupants and identified the driver as Matthew Scott Murray and a passenger as Lawrence McPherson.  Based on suspicious activity observed by the officer, A K-9 was asked to respond and perform a scan of the vehicle which resulted in a positive alert.  A search of the vehicle was conducted by officers and a quantity of prescription medication and heroin along with numerous hypodermic syringes were recovered.  Both Murray and McPherson were placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland Police Department. Murray was charged with 3 counts CDS possession not marihuana and McPherson was charged with CDS possession not marihuana and possession of CDS paraphernalia.  Both were taken before the District Court Commissioner and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center.

McPherson was later to be found in possession of a quantity of heroin that was concealed on him when he was booked into the Detention Center.  Addition charges will be filed.

 

Matthew Scott Murray, age; 52, Ocean City, Maryland.

Held on a $2,000 bond.

 

Lawrence McPherson, age; 50, Hagerstown, Maryalnd.

Held on a $5,000 bond.
