Two Frostburg Residents Facing Burglary Charges

December 1st, 2015 by WCBC Radio

On Sunday, November 29,, the Frostburg Police Department received three burglary complaints at separate
residences on Center Street, Stoyer Street, and Wood Street, which involved suspects entering the residences and
stealing property from within, while the victims were away. Approximately 150 items were stolen during the
burglaries, including computers, televisions, and electronic items, clothing and personal items, housewares, textbooks,
and U.S. Currency. The burglaries had occurred from November 24 to November 29, 2015. A fourth burglary
complaint was also received, and involved a victim who awoke in his home and observed a female suspect he did not
know inside. She left prior to calling police, and the victim provided a description.
On Monday, November 30, 2015, victims from one of the burglaries discovered that some of their stolen items had
been sold to a second-hand store. Police responded to the scene, verified that the stolen items had been sold there, and
spoke with store personnel. Police viewed video surveillance showing two suspects present when selling the stolen
property to the store. The two suspects were recognized by police.
On the evening of November 30, 2015, police obtained and executed a search and seizure warrant at the suspects’
residence. During the execution of the warrant, the two suspects were located inside the residence, along with
numerous items matching the description of items stolen in these incidents. The suspects, Nicholas John Griffith, 36,
of Frostburg, and Nicola Anna Haines, 34, of Frostburg, were both placed under arrest.
Prior to being taken into custody, Griffith became belligerent at the scene, and exposed his private parts to police.
While under arrest, he destroyed a blanket in the police department holding cell, and later charged at and was
combative with officers as they opened the cell door.
In addition, an item of stolen property from a separate, fifth, incident, in which a package had been stolen from a
victim’s porch on Center Street, was located inside the suspects’ residence.
Through investigation, police determined that Griffith and Haines had committed the three burglaries involving thefts
together.

burglary (three counts), fourth degree burglary (three counts), theft $1,000 to under $10,000 (three counts), theft
