Two Possible Bidders on Canal Place Named

May 22nd, 2014 by WCBC Radio

A number of sources have now confirmed to WCBC News that Chaney Architects and Joy Development are the two bidders under consideration by the Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority to re-develop the Footer Dye Works Building. Redevelopment of the aging structure has long been viewed by the Authority Board as a key to the overall success of Canal Place as well as providing the potential for economic development opportunities. It has proven a hard sell to date however, with a number of hurdles slowing the efforts in recent years.  Chaney Architects is a Cumberland based firm with a lengthy list of local projects to its credit including Vista Towers. Michael Joy, a builder and developer from Washington, has also completed a number of projects in the area including the Liberty Street Lofts in Cumberland. Interim Canal Place Chair Rick Thayer says that given various financial incentives now in place for potential developers as well as improvements to the structure, the Footer building is ideally positioned for commercial development opportunities.
