Two Prominent Local Residents Pass Away

Sikander Lal Sandhir, 81, MD, FRCS, passed away Tuesday at his home surrounded by family. Dr. Sandhir and his family moved to Allegany County in 1972. As a practicing physician based in Frostburg, he served the Frostburg and Allegany County communities for 37 years in Surgery and Family Medicine, retiring in 2009. Dr. Sandhir was also active in the medical community, serving as the Medical Director at Frostburg Village Nursing Home and Eagle’s Nursing Home in Lonaconing, and serving as the President of the medical staff and member of the Board of Frostburg Community Hospital. He was President of the surgical staff at Sacred Heart Hospital from 1985 to 1987 and the President of the Allegany County Medical Society in 1987. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home P.A., Cresaptown on Saturday from 12-1PM. 

 

Mary Martha (Burke) Dailey Salathe, 80, passed away on Tuesday at the Frostburg Village Nursing Center. She was a member of Centre Street United Methodist Church, Junior Women’s Civic Club, League for Crippled Children, A Children’s Place- where she began the daffodils fund raising project. She was also a member of the Frostburg State University Foundation, the Cumberland YMCA Foundation, and she was instrumental in the creation of the gift shop at Memorial Hospital. She was also a corporate officer of Cumberland Electric, Inc.  Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Avenue on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.
