3 PM UPDATE – Although some units remained on the scene, traffic in the vicinity has returned to normal.
Dozens of firemen from the area were called to West Industrial Boulevard in Cumberland at 11:15 this morning for a structure fire that spread to a nearby building containing apartments.
Cumberland Fire Chief Donald Dunn tells WCBC News that the fire was in the process of spreading when units arrived on the scene. Chief Dunn says the fire appears to have originated in the front of the building.
Several neighbors told WCBC News that they had been in contact with law enforcement about suspicious activity at the home where the fire began. As the investigation is not yet underway, it is not known if the fire is related to those alleged activities.
