January 27th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

(Frederick, MD) – Maryland State Police have confirmed the identity of the victim involved in the fatal crash in Frederick County. The deceased victim is identified as Jacob Jackson, 46, of Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Jackson was the driver and sole occupant of a 2011 Nissan Rogue involved in the crash on the morning of January 25, 2017. Emergency medical service personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene. The three other individuals involved in the crash are identified as Shawn Gill, 46, of Gaithersburg, Mark Tew, 27, of Hanover and Richard Aldar, 53, of Sykesville. Gill and Tew were transported by ambulance to Frederick Memorial Hospital. Aldar refused medical treatment at the scene. All three were driving commercial dump trucks at the time.

Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation. The Maryland State Police CRASH team continues to investigate the crash that occurred shortly after 9:00 a.m. this past Wednesday. All four vehicles were traveling westbound on I-70 at the ramp from northbound I-270 in Frederick. Police believe Aldar, the driver of one of the dump trucks, stopped in lane 3 on westbound I-70 due to a motorcade passing through the area. A second dump truck, operated by Tew, subsequently stopped as did Jackson, the driver of the Nissan Rogue. The third dump truck, operated by Gill, slammed into the rear of the Nissan, causing all four vehicles to collide into one another. After the impact, an explosion occurred. Two of the dump trucks and the Nissan Rogue became engulfed in flames. The third dump truck sustained minimal fire damage due to its proximity to the other vehicles.

The reconstruction of the incident is being conducted by troopers assigned to the Maryland State Police CRASH Team. Personnel from the Maryland State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division continue inspections of the commercial vehicles.
