Valentine Concerned With Terms Of Additional State Funding Of New Allegany HS

Commissioners President Bill Valentine now has some company in his growing concern about a new funding plan for the Allegany High School project. All indications are that the Allegany County Board of Education will vote Tuesday to rescind the state funding package it had in place for the new school in order to reapply for a new state funding package. Based on the new, more generous terms, the state will contribute another $10 million to the project under the new package. The county also stated last month that it will contribute another $4 million to the project. With $10 million added by the state and $4 million from the county, the total amount of funds secured for the project becomes $49.2 million.  Valentine remains concerned about the terms of the $10 million in additional monies the state has offered. He said the state wants the county to “front fund” the $10 million without offering the county any terms in writing on how the money will be paid back. Having had recent discussions with members of the Hogan administration about the issue, Valentine said that both the governor and the comptroller has questions for IAC executive director David Lever about the funding package…
