Van Hollen, Szeliga debating today

The major party candidates for U.S. Senate in Maryland are holding their first broadcast debate today.

Democratic Congressman Chris Van Hollen and Republican House Minority Whip Kathy Szeliga will particiapte in a one hour debate on WAMU-FM in Washington.

This will be the first of two broadcast debates scheduled.

Both candidates have committed to appearing in a televised debate hosted by the Baltimroe Sun and WJZ-TV in Baltimore on October 26.

Szeliga has criticized Van Hollen for not agreeing to two other invitations for broadcast ddbates inlcuding one from Maryland Public Television and WBAL.

A Washington Post poll released this week shows Van Hollen leading Szleiga 58-percent to 29-percent.  Green Party candidate Margaret Flowers received 5-percent in the poll. She is not included in today's debate.
