Vick Understands Public’s Frustation With Canal Place

Saying that he completely understands the public's frustration with the failure of the shops at Canal Place to help revitalize the downtown business climate- Board Chair Andy Vick tells WCBC that the Authority is not solely to blame. The announced resignation earlier this month of executive director Renee Bone has once again shown a spotlight on the lack of current businesses operating at Canal Place as well as yet another change in management. Vick, a guest on WCBC's "Dave Norman Show" Monday said that while mistakes have been made over the years- the bottom line is than outstanding venue which attracts more than 130,000 visitors annually via the scenic railroad and the hiking and biking trail. He said the private sector should be able to take advantage of these opportunities…

    Need some advertising definitely. Canal Place sits under a bridge with no signs on 68. People ride right by it and never know it’s there.

    No wonder businesses can’t make it in this area – too many people do all their shopping at WalMart. When WalMart is the only store we have – prices will go up! I hope Canal Place finds success.
