A Virginia man has been sentenced to prison for defrauding The Greenbrier.
According to a release from the United States Attorney's Office of the Southern District of West Virginia, 57-year-old Carmelo "Carmine" Carrozza was sentenced Wednesday to one year and two months in federal prison. He must also pay $48,355.73 in restitution to The Greenbrier.
Carrozza previously pleaded guilty to wire fraud.
In 2013, Carrozza began working at the resort as the Director of Fine Dining. Prosecutors say that in June 2013, Carrozza falsely told management that he had cancer. He then left the resort, purportedly to receive cancer treatment, and kept collecting his salary.
Instead of getting cancer treatment, Carrozza began working at the University of Virginia Darden School Foundation in August 2013. He collected his salary from June through mid-December 2013.
