Volunteer Fire Departments To Receive Recommendations For Better Financial Practices

After several years of fiscal problems with various volunteer fire departments- the Allegany County Commissioners last month moved forward with efforts to have a better accountability system in place county wide. The county hopes the study of how the departments handle their funding and recommendations for better financial accounting will avoid future troubles. Emergency Services Dick DeVore said he believes most of the departments are doing a good job with tracking their finances, noting that some departments have financial audits, but others can’t afford a formal audit.  The study will provide recommendations for better financial practices was awarded to the low bidder, Turnbull, Hoover & Kahl, of Cumberland, a certified public accounting firm…
