The Beckley Register-Herald reports that National Rifle Association and Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation officials believe passing a bill to allow hunting on Sundays in West Virginia would have a positive economic impact in West Virginia. John Culclasure with Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation said allowing hunting on Sunday would cause the direct creation of 1,900 jobs, along with $29 million in wages. He reported Tuesday to the Joint Commission on Economic Development that the total economic impact would be the creation of more than 2,600 jobs and more than $50 million in wages, with a total of more than $155 million in economic output. Currently, 22 counties in West Virginia allow hunting on Sunday on private land. Anyone seeking to hunt on private property must obtain written permission from the property owner. West Virginia is one of 11 states that either prohibit or restrict hunting on Sundays, including Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia.
