March 3rd, 2012 by WCBC Radio

(Lavale, MD)-  On 2/29/2012 between the hours of 6:05 PM to 7:55 PM a male subject entered the Lavale, MD, Wal-Mart, located at the Country Club Mall, and exposed himself indecently to young males between the ages of five to ten years old.  A description of the male suspect was developed through speaking with the victims and reviewing Wal-Mart video surveillance.  Video surveillance showed the suspect following several young males between the ages of five to ten years old for approximately two hours on 2/29/2012.  The video also showed the suspect watching and entering the male bathrooms of the store on numerous occasions.

On 3/1/2012 at approximately 7:00 PM troopers were advised to respond to Wal-Mart where a member of the Wal-Mart staff observed the suspect inside the store exposing himself again.  An off duty trooper, CPL. Justin Cook, of the Maryland State Police Cumberland Barrack was at Wal-Mart and observed the suspect.  As he approached the suspect he noted that he was standing near a young male patron and appeared to be attempting to obtain the child’s attention. Cpl. Cook approached the suspect and identified himself as a trooper. Cpl. Cook detained the suspect and subsequently released him to the custody of on-duty troopers who arrived at the scene.

The suspect was identified as Joseph Abraham Deem, 36 years old, of Berlin, PA. (photo below).  Joseph Deem was charged with Indecent Exposure and Disorderly Conduct and held at the Allegany County Detention Center on $5,000.00 Bond.

This is the Human Resources Director at Friends Aware. I certainly hope that an investigation will be done to make sure that none of the individuals there were put in harms way. As you know many of them are not able to report such things for themselves. How can such an individual be hired into an HR position? I know that you can not rely on second hand information but I have heard that he was fired from a previous job for handeling himself and watching porn while at work. Did anybody bother to do reference checks before putting him into such an important position at Freinds Aware? My thoughts are with the boys that were affected by this sick man.
