WCI Death Leads To Murder Indictment

The Office of the State’s Attorney for Allegany County, the Honorable Michael O. Twigg, State’s Attorney, announced on Monday, November 23, 2015, that recently the Grand Jury sitting in Allegany County returned a Bill of Indictment charging Venell Domon Harris with one count of First Degree Murder in the death of his cellmate, Darrell Murray, at the Western Correctional Institution, located in Cumberland, Maryland.

Murray was found deceased in his cell in the early morning hours of July 29, 2015.  The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for Maryland determined the manner of his death was a homicide caused by multiple injuries.   The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit investigated the circumstances of his death.

Harris will appear in the Circuit Court for Allegany County at a later date, where a trial will be scheduled.  The case will be prosecuted by Allegany County Assistant State’s Attorney Erich Bean.
