Westernport Man Tied to Baltimore Murder

On Thursday, 02/16/2012, members of the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) arrested 46 year old William Jeffrey Howard, of Westernport, after the Baltimore Police obtained a warrant for his arrest for his involvement in a shooting which had occurred on Wednesday afternoon, 02/15/2012, in the 3900 block of Mortimer Avenue in Baltimore.

Detectives with the Baltimore Police responded to Allegany County after obtaining information about a vehicle used by the suspect in the shooting. C3I Investigators obtained search warrants for a residence on Main Street in Westernport where Howard was living, as well as the vehicle.

Entry into the residence was made by the Cumberland Police CERT team. A handgun, believed to be the one used during the incident, was recovered from the vehicle. Additional items of evidence were recovered from the residence.

Additional assistance at the scene was provided by the Maryland State Police.

Howard was charged with Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Assault, Conspiracy, several handgun violations, and related charges.

Howard was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance, and is currently being held without bond in the Allegany County Detention Center pending his return to Baltimore.
