With Proposed Insurance Change, City Would’ve Saved $1 Million

March 5th, 2014 by WCBC Radio

The Cumberland Mayor and City Council held a budget work session yesterday evening. No one in the room was talking about any increase in the tax rate. During the session, Councilman Dave Kauffman asked how much the city would have saved had an insurance change been allowed to go forward from the time it was first proposed a year ago, through the end of this fiscal year.

City Administrator Jeff Rhodes said the potential savings would have totaled nearly one million dollars.  The issue is a point of contention between the city and its firefighters union.
