Western Maryland Health System (WMHS) and Allegany County health and law enforcement representatives recently participated in an international behavioral health conference in Kansas City, Missouri, where they shared an innovative approach that has been developed for responding to behavioral health issues in Allegany County.
The conference was hosted by the International Crisis Intervention Team (CIT), a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote community collaboration using the CIT program to assist people living with mental illness and/or addiction who are in crisis. Approximately 1100 behavioral health and law enforcement professionals from around the country attended the week-long conference.
“We were pleased and honored to have been selected to present at this prestigious conference as a result of our rural community’s innovative approach to establishing a community-wide Crisis Intervention Team,” said Jeff O’Neal, Executive Director of Clinics, Practices, and Behavioral Health Services at WMHS.
