WMSR CEO Still Optimistic

Although it was announced this week that the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad has canceled plans for an autumn return of its steam-powered locomotive- WMSR CEO John Garner remains optimistic that the fall and winter will see big business for the tourist train. The railroad has been renovating its 1949 Baldwin steam locomotive No. 1309 and initial plans had been for a July 4th weekend open. After that date was missed and restoration efforts stalled, late September dates were announced. With no steam engine, the railroad has been using diesel engines to pull the excursion train. Garner says not having the steam engine for the fall is disappointing- but the railroad will persevere…
