Woman Arrested After Refusing to Pay Cab Fare, Assaulting Police

On Tuesday, April 21st, 2020 the Cumberland Police Department responded to Virginia Avenue for the report of a female who refused to pay for her cab fare.  When officers arrived, contact was made with the cab driver who stated that he picked up a female on South Street at her request for transportation to LaVale.  The cab driver advised that the female then requested to be taken to Virginia Avenue and upon exiting the cab; she stated that she did not have the fare to pay and slammed the cab’s door causing damage.  The female was soon located in the area by officers and became confrontational by yelling at officers as they attempted to investigate the incident and obtain her personal information.  The female, eventually identified as Damera Davis, continued to yell despite being asked to calm down and talk with officers.  At this time, Davis was placed under arrest and began to resist and assault officers as they were trying to place her in a patrol vehicle for transport.  Davis was charged with assault, disorderly conduct, failure to obey a lawful order, resisting arrest, malicious destruction of property, and theft.  She was had a bond review before the District Court Commissioner and was released on her own personal recognizance pending trial.

    No respect for self, therefore no respect for others.
    So much for essential travel, should be charged for that infraction as well if warranted.
